The United Kingdom and Italy conclude a pact to increase cooperation in film and television production

The British Film Commission (BFC) and the Italian Film Commissions (IFC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at facilitating cooperation in high-end film and television production between the two countries.

The idea is to enhance opportunities and incentives for large productions being shot in both regions, such as a Disney movie. The Little Mermaid, filmed in the UK and Sardinia, Universal’s ‘No Time To Die’, and the upcoming live-action ‘Pinocchio’ directed by Robert Zemeckis for Disney+.

The agreement, signed in Cannes, will also serve to strengthen the relationship between the network of regional organizations and partners in both regions, where the two committees are already working closely.

“We are pleased to build on our excellent relationship with Italian Film Commissions through this friendship agreement,” BFC President Adrian Wootton said in a statement. He noted, “Globally, we’ve seen a significant increase in the amount of films and high-end television productions commissioned in recent years.

He added: “Strong, cooperative European relations such as those between the UK and Italy are key to our mutual success.”

In a similar comment, IFC President Christina Briaroni said: “In this moment of great global production vitality, IFC is keen to strengthen international partnerships.”

In particular, “Building bridges with the UK is a prime example of this, and the wise work of the British Film Commission within the framework of the MoU is paving the way for Italian producers and professionals to strengthen their relationships with British industry, with a view to opening up new business opportunities and exchanges.”
