Apple AirTag has a new competitor – but with multiple designs

Apple’s AirTag has many competing trackers — the likes of Tile, Chipolo, SmartTag, and more, many of which rank higher on our list of the best key finders. But AirTags now has another competitor to worry about: Pebblebee, which is similar in almost every function — and price — to Apple’s AirTag.

Pebblebee just launched the Pebblebee Clip and Pebblebee Card – two extensions that come with Apple’s Find My integration, which Apple provided to third-party developers a year ago. Having this means that the Pebblebee clip and tag will be compatible with the Find My app on the iPhone, iPad, and Mac, along with the Find Items apps on the Apple Watch — just like the AirTag.

Unlike the one-size-fits-all AirTag, Pebblebee offers its tracker in a few forms. The Pebblebee Clip is designed for use on the go in things like keys, bags, courses or even luggage, and it has a loophole so you can attach it directly to your keychain. The Pebblebee Card is slim and fits in any wallet, card holder, handbag or passport.

The Pebblebee Card can run for 12 months on a single charge while the Pebblebee Clip can run for 6 months. Both can be recharged, and come with a USB-C charger. The AirTag, for comparison, can run for a year but contains no rechargeable batteries.

The Pebblebee Clip has a decent 500-foot range and is also water-resistant—although we don’t yet know if it will return well if submerged. The card makes a loud beeping noise that will instantly let you know if you leave your wallet or anything behind. Pebblebee claims you’ll hear it even in crowded places.
