EA has reportedly spoken with Disney, Apple, and more about the acquisition or merger

Electronic Arts have reportedly spoken with a number of tech giants such as Disney and Apple about its acquisition. EA is one of the biggest game publishers thanks to its iron grip on major sports IP titles like Madden and UFC, but it also operates other huge AAA franchises like Battlefield, Need for Speed, and Mass Effect. Although gamers have a lot of conflicting feelings about the company, it is undeniable that its presence in the gaming industry is quite huge and makes it a profitable business for all involved… which could lead to the acquisition of the publisher.

according to Report from the imp (via Kotaku), EA wants to sell the company to the likes of Apple, Amazon, Disney, or one of the many other giants. The company has already been in talks with the companies listed above and no deal is in the works, but a deal with NBC Universal almost happened. The deal reportedly collapsed due to the pricing, but it shows that EA is willing to take the deal if the price is right. Although an EA spokesperson denied the allegations to Kotaku, Puck’s report indicated that EA was interested in some kind of merger and had been more enthusiastic about the idea since the news that Microsoft was acquiring Activision.

“Several sources familiar with these conversations say EA has been persistent in pursuing the sale, only getting emboldened in the wake of the Microsoft-Activision deal,” said Puck’s Dylan Byers. Others say EA is primarily interested in arranging a merger that would allow Wilson to remain as CEO of the combined company.

As already noted, this comes on the heels of the news that Microsoft is buying Activision in the biggest deal in the gaming industry’s history. The $70 billion deal is expected to be completed by next summer if all goes according to plan. EA may be more interested in this deal because it has abandoned its deal with FIFA and will lose its rights to be the exclusive publisher of Star Wars games in 2023. As of now, only time will tell if EA finds an offer it is happy with.
