Some of these will feature Ellie’s mother, Anna, who cannot be clearly seen in the game. She is mentioned several times and even Ellie carries things belonging to her mother with her, but she dies before the audience can meet Ellie. Given the structure of television, it looks like the show will take some liberties and allow the audience to spend time with Ellie’s mother. It’s unclear if any of the flashback scenes will feature Joel before the outbreak or before the main story events.
