Dragon Ball Super’s Granola Arc made Goku worse

Dragon Ball Super He’s been exploring parts of the past never before seen over the course of Granolah the Survivor arc so far, but the latest chapters of the series seem to have made Goku worse as a result. The arc has so far taken a major detour to explore a part of Bardock’s past as it is revealed that he has ties to both Granola and Heathers through a fight in the past. But as the series revealed more about Bardock, it not only made Goku’s father worse, but also made Goku worse as a result.

Dragon Ball Fans love Goku for a number of reasons, but an essential aspect of his character right from the start is the fact that he was a humble young fighter who eventually worked hard and achieved his greatest skills through effort. Despite not being an elite of a species that values strength over everything, Goku has managed to live up to his current level of strength. But what the arc reveals is upsetting that his early life was blessed with a Dragon Ball wish, the annoyance that Bardock was more private than he was initially allowed to, and that Goku is not a hard worker but a chosen one.

During the Granolah the Survivor arc, it is revealed that Bardock has used his wish for the Monaito Dragon Balls to wish his sons “thriving”. Even not counting the official English translation, fans discussing the nature of desire agree on the fact that desire itself only lasted until Goku and Raditz grew into adulthood, and their deaths during the Saiyan saga were the breaking point for Wishes. It’s something Vegeta mentions in chapter 84, and thus indicates that all of Goku’s early success in his life was due to this desire.

Pair this with the fact that Dragon Ball Super He also confirmed that Bardock and Gine were able to save Goku at the last moment by charging him from Planet Vegeta before destroying him, and now Goku is suddenly one type of character born to fight against the forces of evil. Wish or not, these are still unfair advantages that weren’t there the first time around. Sure enough, he was blessed with mystical power early on, but it never seemed like an advantage completely conferred considering the formidable enemies he faced.

I’ve starred Goku’s fights so far, setting him back as someone who hasn’t fully worked out to get to where he is. He wouldn’t completely reject everything he had done since then, but it was definitely an unnecessary change to his origin. An unwanted change in the end makes Goku worse now. But what do you think?
