‘Yellowjackets’, Jean-Marc Vallee among the winners of the 2022 Rockie Award

The Banff International Media Festival announced that the late director Jean-Marc Vallee will be honored posthumously with his Canadian Excellence Award next month. Vale will be joined at the Rockie Awards in Banff by “American Auto” star Anna Gasteyer, who will receive the Sir Peter Ustinov Comedy Award, and the “Yellowjackets” team made up of Ashley Lyle, Bart Nickerson and Jonathan Lisco, who were named Showrunners. of the Year (Presented by diverse).

The Rockie Award Gala takes place on Tuesday, June 14 at 6:30 p.m. MT at the Fairmont Banff Springs in Banff, Alberta, Canada, in the middle of the Banff World Media Festival. Canadian R&B star Jully Black will host the awards programme.

Other honorees include Vivica A. Fox (“Kill Bill: Vol. 1 & 2”, “Empire”), who was selected this year for the Inclusion Award. Rose Matafio (Starstruck, Funny Girls) will receive the Creative Voice Award. Eagle Vision won the Innovative Product of the Year award.

Jully Black, the queen of Canadian R&B/Soul and a true Canadian icon, will host the festival’s main awards programme. Chosen as one of the “25 Greatest Canadian Singers of All Time” (CBC Music) she is a platinum selling artist and performer; A Juno Award winner, Gemini, Toronto Theater Critics Association and Dora Mavor Moore, celebrity morning television host, television and musicals actress of firm belief and conviction.

Other awards to be presented at the ceremony will include the Impact Award, Program of the Year, and Grand Jury Prize.

Gasteyer’s Sir Peter Ustinov Prize for Comedy “honours a creative talent who has made an outstanding comedic contribution to the media industry.” Previous honorees include Kenan Thompson, Sean Hayes, John Cleese, Tracy Ullman, Bob Newhart, Tanto Cardinal, John Candy and Bill Hader.

Inclusion Award “in honor of the individual whose efforts and vision in the media are champions and reflect the diversity of the world in which we live.” Prior to Fox, previous honorees have included Danielle Brooks, Livar Burton, Jonathan Murray and Elizabeth Vargas.

Valley, who died in December 2021 at the age of 58, is the latest recipient of the Canadian Excellence Award, “awarded to a Canadian whose work represents an outstanding achievement in the entertainment industry.” Simo Liu, Eric McCormack, Kim Cattrall and Sheila Hawkin are previous honorees.

The Matafeo Creative Voice Award is given to “executive or creative talent who has created outstanding work that penetrates, inspires and connects global audiences.” The Yellowjackets contestants follow in the footsteps of previous Showrunner winners Jade Mercurio, Moira Wally Beckett, John Ridley, Damon Lindelof, Joey Solway and Clyde Phillips.

The Eagle Vision Innovative Product Award “recognizes the excellence and pioneering achievements of an independent producer in television/digital media” with past winners such as Sinking Ship Entertainment, Wattpad Studios, Scott Brothers Entertainment, New Metric Media, Wolf + Rabbit, Don Carmody and Marblemedia.
