Galaxy Watch 4 owners have pairing issues after installing Assistant

Google and Samsung finally brought Google Assistant to the Galaxy Watch 4 series last week. But some users don’t seem to have a great experience yet, with complaints of unusual battery drain and frequent outages already starting to pile up.

According to multiple Reddit threads, Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic owners are experiencing connectivity issues after installing the Google Assistant. In some cases, users are unable to fix the Galaxy Watch 4 on the phone, leaving them with no choice but to perform a hard reset and setup the watch from scratch.

He writes “I enabled Google Assistant yesterday” u/iadorebrandon“And when I woke up today, the watch could not pair with my phone. I think I will have to reset the watch.”

“My phone is no longer listed as a device in the Wear app. If I try to click add,” it said u/uy8kof/help“It asks me to pair it as if it was paired with a new phone, and it asks me to erase my watch, (which I especially don’t want to do because setting up all cards on Samsung pay again is difficult).”

However, the problem does not seem to affect everyone. For example, Pranob and I had no connection issues after installing Google Assistant.

In addition to connectivity issues, users are also reporting significant battery drain after activating the hot word “Hey Google”. Google mentions during setup that activating hot word detection will result in faster battery drain, so this isn’t entirely surprising. You can disable “Hey Google” by going to Settings > Google > Assistant on the Galaxy Watch 4.
