The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee: Events Around Britain

Queen Elizabeth II celebrates her platinum jubilee from 2 June and the UK is abuzz with events celebrating this achievement. At the time of publication, there were at least 2,429 public events and 3,388 street parties or private events held across the country, with London leading with 1,000.

The UK has a four-day bank holiday starting on Thursday to celebrate the 96-year-old monarch’s achievement.

Here’s a taste of the major events planned:

on me June 2The Queen’s Birthday Parade, known as Trooping the Color, will feature more than 1,400 soldiers, 200 horses and 400 musicians. Starting at Buckingham Palace, the show in the mall will travel to Horseguards Parade, joined by members of the royal family on horseback and in carriages. The show will conclude with the traditional RAF pass, which is watched by the Queen and members of the royal family from the balcony of Buckingham Palace. The event will be broadcast live on BBC One.

on me June 4Held at Buckingham Palace, The Palace’s Platinum Gala – shown live on BBC One, BBC iPlayer and BBC Radio 2 – will feature Queen + Adam Lambert, Alicia Keys, Hans Zimmer, Ella Eyre, Craig David, Mabel, Elbow and George Ezra. They will share the stage three held with Duran Duran, Andrea Bocelli, Mimi Webb, Sam Ryder, Jax Jones, Celeste, Neil Rodgers, Segala and Variety. Stars who will appear at the event and in the film will include David Attenborough, Emma Radocano, David Beckham, Stephen Fry, Julie Andrews, The Royal Ballet, Elle Symonds, and a specially recorded performance by Elton John. Inspired by the Queen’s 70 years of service and leadership, the British Council is building a network of 100 young leaders in five countries in South Asia (Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka) and UK Young Women Leaders from around the world. Arts and Education will benefit from training, mentorship, and the opportunity to network and collaborate. Public virtual events will be hosted in the region and the UK to culminate in a closing ceremony in June, during the festivities.

And on the BBC there are special jubilee editions of “EastEnders”, “Bargain Hunt”, “The Repair Shop” and the documentary “The Crown Jewels”, in which presenter Clive Myrie was given access to the Queen’s Crown Jewels, which consist of 13 crowns and 24,000 precious gems.
