We have to admit that this makes the basic notes of the Introduction somewhat banal and uninteresting. After all, the element of surprise is no longer there – for the most part, at least. The iPhone 14 case is no different. We’re months away from the phone’s launch, and we already know what it could look like. Apple tends to reveal new iPhone sets during its fall event. It usually happens sometime in September. Our guess would be that the iPhone 14 lineup will also be launched in September 2022. If the company encounters shortages or other internal issues, there is little chance that the event will be pushed. However, we don’t think that will be the case.
Once the phone is announced, pre-orders usually open the same day for major regions such as the US, with shipping beginning about 2-3 weeks later. Other regions follow.
Pricing
It is almost impossible to know the exact price of an Apple product before its official unveiling. However, we can make an informed estimate based on current lineup pricing. The iPhone 13 Mini starts at $700 while the regular model goes for $800. Pricing for the regular iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Max variant could be around the same ranges respectively.
iPhone 14 models
In the past few years, Apple has been looking at the iPhone Mini, iPhone, iPhone Pro, and iPhone Pro Max. This year the company may change the naming and size of its evolving group. The regular models will reportedly not include a mini version, with the mini model falling behind in demand by a noticeable margin. Alternatively, the Cupertino tech giant could opt for the Max version, which has a larger screen, as an extension of the base variant. In this case, we will get the regular iPhone 14 models with 6.1 and 6.7 inch screens. The 5.4-inch iPhone Mini will meet the fate of the iPod.
design
When it comes to the design of the iPhone 14 and 14 Max, we don’t expect any changes this year. These two phones could use the same chassis from the iPhone 13. And the 14 Max wants it to be just an extended version of the regular 14, which features a notch on the camera bump and notch.
Colors
It’s too early to comment on what colors the new iPhone 14 series will come in. But you can rest assured that there will be a range of color options for users to choose from. We assume that Apple will offer a range of colors for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max and a different set of color shades for the Pro series. It’s also not a far-fetched assumption that Apple could add another color about 6 months after release (as they did with the iPhone 13 series and Alpine Green) — but they won’t say this on stage at the launch of the iPhone 14. So in case you don’t like any of the Colors at launch, you can wait a few months to see what’s coming.
Width and cracks
iPhone 14 and 14 Max can support ProMotion 120Hz technology which makes some animations faster. This feature was exclusive to Pro iPhones in previous years.
We have reasons to believe the iPhone 14 Pro models will ship without a notch. Apple could replace that with a perforated design and a pillbox. Unfortunately, though, it looks like the iPhone 14 and 14 Max will get the iPhone 13’s top-notch treatment. Don’t ask us — at this point, we don’t even know how the regular iPhone 14 models will be considered an upgrade when compared to the iPhone 13.
Treatments
The iPhone 14 and 14 Max are said to use the same A15 Bionic chip included in the iPhone 13 lineup. The company will likely keep the upgraded 2022 chip exclusive to Pro models. This would differentiate further between the different variants and redefine what a Pro iPhone actually is. It is unclear whether the A15 Bionic chip on the iPhone 14 will be identical to the iPhone 13 chip or not. Apple may be tweaking it to boost its performance – sparing the more powerful “A16 Bionic” in the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max.
cameras
Apple has been using the 12MP wide camera on its iPhone for a while now. While this year’s Pro models might get a bump in resolution, the regular iPhone 14 and 14 Max could be sticking with the old 12MP sensor. This also makes us believe that the iPhone 14 will be a minor upgrade when switching from the iPhone 13, which itself was a minor upgrade over the iPhone 12. The front camera and sensor array are also expected to remain the same.
Programming
The tech giant Cupertino is likely to launch its iPhone 14 lineup with iOS 16 pre-installed. Another possibility is to see iOS 16.1 – where the company did something similar with an earlier version. It all depends on how stable iOS 16 is by the time it drops and what Apple is dealing with internally. Ultimately, it will be iOS 16, and the phone will receive updates for many years to come.
Battery, charging and ports
Apple doesn’t usually go into detail when it comes to exact specifications on paper, focusing more on the pure experience of the device. Oftentimes, it’s also because the core specs haven’t changed much. We expect the same thing to happen this year when it comes to battery, charging and ports. The iPhone 14 will likely keep the same specs for these classes, although Apple can promise to extend battery life through software improvements. And when it comes to ports, expect the iPhone 14 to stick with the Lightning port again — the switch to USB Type-C isn’t expected for this year at least.
