Young Thug Denied Bond in RICO v. YSL

Rapper Young Thug was denied bonds at a Thursday hearing in Atlanta for his role in the alleged Young Slim Life gang.

In announcing the decision, Judge Oral Glanville said Young Thug, whose real name was Jeffrey Williams, represented a danger to the community and an escape hazard.

“There have been many allegations that Mr. Williams is a danger to society,” Glanville said in his decision. “In particular, the state claims to have received statements from other gang members – the people who are in this indictment and others who are not in this indictment – that he is the leader of the gang, he is dangerous and if he crosses them he will kill them or their families.”

Williams was initially deprived of the bond on May 23, but his attorney demanded an emergency pledge due to the alleged “inhuman conditions” Williams was going through in prison. Thursday’s hearing ruled that Williams would remain in prison.

Williams was arrested last month, along with 27 others linked to the alleged Young Slime Life gang, for violating the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization Act. The indictment of 56 counts includes counts of premeditated murder, drug and weapon possession, theft, intimidation of witnesses, car theft, theft and drug trafficking. The indictment also listed the names of several well-known rappers, including Gunna, who was stripped of bonds in May. Gunna’s trial date has been set for January 9, 2023.
