Disney leases Apple X-Marc Boson games for Metaverse initiative

Disney has appointed Mark Bozon, a top gaming executive from Apple, as chief creative leader for its Next Generation Cross-Divisional Storytelling initiative — which includes Disney’s “metaverse” ambitions.

on May 20 tweetBozon announced that he was leaving Apple after 12 years, saying “I’m going to an absolute dream job” (without revealing that he was headed to Disney). Most recently, he worked as the Creative Director of Games for Apple Arcade, the tech giant’s game subscription service.

Boson is appointed by Mike White, Disney’s senior vice president of Next Generation Storytelling & Consumer Experiences, a 10-year veteran of the company who was appointed earlier this year to lead the development and coordination of Disney’s metaverse strategy. In this role, White provided dual reporting to both Karim Daniel, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Disney Media & Entertainment District, and Josh Damaro, President of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products.

As Disney’s Vice President of Creative Experiences for the Next Generation of Storytelling, Bozon will be responsible for driving the group’s creative vision and transforming that strategy into actionable plans. He is expected to build a multidisciplinary team that will work with the Disney companies across games, movies, television, games, theme parks, and more to deliver interconnected consumer experiences.

In addition, Bozon and his team are tasked with innovating, embracing “bold ideas” and serving as a clearinghouse for creative concepts for the next generation of storytelling.

According to Disney, because the term “metaverse” means different things to different people, the White-led company has combined efforts under the Next Generation Storytelling banner and outlined a strategy focused on creating “new artboards for storytelling and audience engagement” that span digital media, physical and virtual experiences. .

Prior to joining Apple in June 2010, Bozon worked as an independent game designer and producer and was the editor for IGN’s Nintendo.
