The newest hero of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Mrs. Marvel, is making a serious impression so far. The only thing I knew everyone knew at the time was that this movie was happening, called The Marvels, that was going to happen. And I knew I’d start with my girl Kamala. And on the first day, she was a teenage girl in Jersey City, and she had no powers. So I knew in the back of my head this character was broken, I’d get it from a teenage girl [with] There are no powers of anything going on in Hell in The Marvels, [by] The end of the show is not it? So that was pretty straightforward and really like, what that means to me and my approach to it and certainly guidance in many ways by the team at Marvel, to make sure I was in the right void, without telling you any spoilers.
So the writer had to introduce a whole new character to the MCU, tell her story and prepare her to work with two other heroes on a movie she knows nothing about. I mean, not a big deal, right? Despite this, the TV chief seems to have taken things right when it comes to crafting Kamala Khan’s arc. She also explains that she has helped her collaborators work on the feature film in a major way:
I knew I had to bring her there, I need[ed] To prepare her match for whatever happens next. …timing wise, we’ve come a long way in the creative process than The Marvels. And apparently The Marvels, it’s not just Kamala Khan in Marvels, there are other masterpieces in this movie. So there are so many other pieces that I really have no idea what was going on… I definitely didn’t know at the time. But creatively, by the time we had all of our scripts for the six episodes, those were available to them. These were available to the team at The Marvels, so they had our scripts before they were filmed, they’d read it. So, yeah, they knew what we were doing [with] Kamala’s background, her voice, how she carries herself and how she gets to be at the end of our show.
