MIFA, Annecy: the pink parrot takes on the Onka and the protectors of the Amazon

Pink Parrot Media based in Montreal and Madrid has acquired the international distribution rights for the 3D animation project “Onca & The Protectors of the Amazon” (also known as “Arara and the Guardians of the Amazon”).

Pink Parrot is bringing “Onca” to the MIFA Market at Annecy Festival, where the company will look for financial partners.

Aimed at an audience of children between the ages of 8 and 12, this feature was written and directed by Colombian film Vlamyr Vizcaya (“Out of Love”). The story takes place in the Amazon rainforest and aims to raise environmental awareness.

The film’s producers are co-producers of the Belgian film Walking The Dog (“Another Day in the Life”, “Where’s Anne Frank?”), Los Angeles and the Berlin studio of Baby Giant Hollyberg, co-founded by Jimmy Hayward’s “Free Birds”. the new studio Buen Rollo Producciones based in Madrid; Colombian El Tuerto Producciones Company; and 3D Animation Studio in Tenerife and VFX 3 Doubles Producciones (“Tadeo Jones 2”, “Klaus”).

Character designer Carlos Grangel (“Kung Fu Panda”, “Madagascar”, “How to Train Your Dragon”) and production designer Simon Varela (“The Croods”, “Scooby-Doo”, “Ice Age”) are also on board.

Onka tells the story of Mogoi, a brave 12-year-old boy and his three close friends, who, after seeing their tribe attacking them, decide to do everything in their power to save their village.

In an action-packed magical adventure, the four must face the Great Predator and save the shaman – but first they must gain their secret magical powers and become the guardians of the Amazon.

“The Onca is a very special project for me, which I have been following for some time, and I am delighted to be a part of this ambitious and challenging adventure,” said Tania Pinto da Cunha, Vice President and Partner of Pink Parrot.

The attached team is the perfect match for this amazing story; Their enthusiasm and perseverance in getting this important message across to all audiences is what makes me believe we have something so unique.”

Pink Parrot noted in a statement: “Onca brings us closer to the reality, which may seem astonishing, that the Amazon region is still inhabited by some indigenous tribes who previously had no contact with the outside world.

“However, their survival is seriously threatened by what we call the ‘civilized world’, the greed of major industrial conglomerates that are destroying this amazing natural habitat,” the statement added.

Onca & The Protectors of The Amazon is already supported by Annecy’s MIFA – Carrefour de la Crèation, Annecy Goes to Cannes, Ibermedia Development Grant Colombia-Spain, and development and production grants from Colombian Proimagenes. She won the producers’ meeting at the Cartagena Film Festival.
