Patrick Schwarzenegger from The Staircase talks about the Spinoff boys

Welcome to this week’s show only diverse. “

Patrick Schwarzenegger can’t reveal any details about his work on the upcoming Amazon spin-off “The Boys” — no, he won’t confirm reports that he’s playing a character called Golden Boy — but he does admit that he showed his father, Arnold Schwarzenegger, photos from the set.

“He looked at me and was like, ‘What the hell are you filming?'” Patrick told me on this week’s episode of diversePodcast.” I was like, “It’s a show called The Boys. … You have to watch an episode to understand it, or else I can’t explain what’s going on in it.”

The producers of “The Boys” reached out to Schwarzenegger for the spin-off after meeting him years ago when he auditioned to play Homelander in the original series. He was not allowed to read the subtexts until he was officially chosen. They were like, ‘It’s about this. This is the character. That’s what’s going to happen in this,” says Schwarzenegger. “I was like, ‘OK, it’s the boys.’ I know it’s going to be a crazy thing but it’s a great show. … and then when I started reading [the scripts] On set, I was like, “Boy, this is going to be, yeah, this is going to be fun and interesting.”

Schwarzenegger adds, “This set is really fun, and there’s just loose comedy. It’s kind of like an ‘orgasm’ meeting with superheroes.”

Not surprisingly, but he also warns that his father and mother, Maria Shriver, “will be on a vicious cycle.”

Schwarzenegger, who made his acting debut when he was 10 years old, had a small role in the 2006 film “The Benchwarmers,” received rave reviews for his work on HBO Max’s “The Staircase” as Todd Peterson, son of Michael Peterson (Colin Firth). Todd battles alcohol and drug abuse as he stands by his father when he is tried for the murder of his wife Kathleen Peterson (Tony Collette).

Todd also seems to question his gender identity. In one scene, it appears that he and a friend might start out while drinking and making lines of Coke in the bathroom stall of the bar. Schwarzenegger reveals that he filmed more explicit scenes that represent “further investigations into his sexuality,” but they haven’t made the final cut. “There were some scenes where he was enjoying himself in his father’s office and… he couldn’t watch porn and live stuff. So he starts investigating other things,” he says.

Of course, I had to ask Schwarzenegger if he thought Michael was guilty of killing Kathleen. He says the owl theory stopped him (a Peterson family neighbor made a pretty convincing argument that Kathleen might have fallen down the stairs after being attacked by an owl), but in the end, “I think it was him.”

Watch The Owl Episode With His Mom: “She was like, ‘I’m really upset because I watched this and I saw the owl thing,’ because it took a little bit of me saying that It was certain.”

Since “The Staircase” premiered on May 5, Schwarzenegger has proven himself to be a good self-deprecating sport by sharing social media posts of viewers who expressed shock at how much they liked his acting. One of the reactions on Twitter: “The biggest reveal from Episode 1 is Patrick Schwarzenegger… can he act?”

Schwarzenegger leans.

“I had a great time, and this project was so much fun. And the feedback has been great,” he says. “A lot of them are funny.”
