diverse And he already delivered a Cocktail Night and Conversation on June 16 in New York City with 10 finalists from this year’s Rising Voices from across the United States.

Among the participants are Jalmer Caceres, “Empty Bases”; Leon Qiu, “The Twenty-Fifth Sons”; Shanrika Evans, “Aminator”; Justin Floyd, “Docile”; Georgia Fu, “Maps”; Gbenga Komolafe, “Tofu”; Kara Lawson, “Twisted Trees Gon Give Me Wings”; Tara Motamedi, “Before Dawn Kabul Time”; Urvashi Pathania, “Beast”, Travis Wood, “Black Santa”. The conversation will be moderated by diverse Senior Awards Editor Clayton Davis.

Founded in February 2021 and now in its second season, Lena Waithe’s Hillman Grad Productions has partnered with Rising Voices to provide resources to selected BIPOC filmmakers to create the short film that will premiere earlier today at Tribeca Festival in New York City.

The finalists were selected from among 900 applicants based on their submitted scenarios. Upon selection, they were given $10,000 writing and directing fees to create their short film, a $100,000 production budget, a line production crew from Hillman Grad and 271 Films and an additional budget for COVID safety protocols to ensure the safety of their crews.

“Working with Lena Waithe and Hillman Grad Productions for Rising Voices Season 2 has proven to be very impressive,” says Lavon Davis, Senior Vice President of Environmental, Social and Governance at Indeed. “This season we tripled our investment and expanded our reach to highlight 10 BIPOC filmmakers from around the world and amplify their stories about what it means to work. When we embarked on this initiative our goal was to expand sustainable job creation for talented underrepresented creators and through our partnership with Lena and HGP, we were able to make it happen.”

It has already tripled its investment in the initiative, pledging $3 million to split between Rising Voices Season 2 and a new program called The Lab. Developed by Indeed and Hellman Grad, this non-exclusive 12-month residency will feature three filmmakers from the show’s first season: Chinese-American director Johnson Cheng, Haitian director Stacey Pascal Gaspard and Dominican-born director Gabriela Ortega.
