With so many new additions to juggle in the final season, it can be difficult to keep all the information presented in Seasons 1 and 2 of The Umbrella Academy.

Bringing our minds back to the whirlwind of Season 2, we’re reminded that Heargreeves were transported far back to the 1960s, where Victor—who was suffering from severe amnesia—was hiding on a farm.
He soon begins to admire Sissy Cooper, who has a son named Harlan with her abusive husband Karl. As a paternal figure, Victor takes young Harlan under his wing; We’ve got this covered Harlan notes he has nonverbal autism.
Fast-forward to a pivotal moment of the season. Harlan escapes and drowns in a lake but Victor arrives and climbs the water to get him back. While performing CPR, he unexpectedly bestows some of his powers on Harlan.
Not only that but the act also creates a bond between the two parties. They appear to share pain and Harlan’s abilities include everything from flying to telekinesis.
As the season draws to a close, the ending sees Victor worried something terrible is going on on the farm, so he and the team arrive to find Harlan struggling to control his abilities.
With The Handler and Lila seeking to manipulate him for their own means, Viktor eventually decides to restore Harlan’s powers. However, the ending also reveals that he did not succeed, as Harlan demonstrated his flying powers after their departure.

Where is Harlan in the third season of Umbrella Academy?
In season three, we are reunited with present-day Harlan, who is inevitably an old man.
He was spotted keeping his eyes peeled on Hargreeves in the previous installments of the season but eventually revealed his identity to others in Episode 4.
Showing off his formidable strength, he arrives at the Obsidian when the Sparrows are there and releases his energy on them. As death and destruction storm the new home, Harlan realizes that this mysterious character is Harlan.
Unstable history detection
When the pair speak, Harlan summarizes his life and explains that his strength has persisted over the years and has caused a rift between him and others, including his mother.
It turns out that he can detect when the owners of powers are approaching; Painful experience every time. However, the real kicker comes when we learn he is actually responsible for The Umbrella Academy’s moms deaths. This was the result of an unsuccessful attempt to communicate with Victor, who instead communicated with mothers and failed to break off relations without fatalities.
This happened after Sissy’s death, making Harlan more isolated and disturbed by his powers than ever before.
