NBC Orders Prehistoric Series ‘Stay Alive’

NBC has ordered eight episodes of “Surviving Earth,” the unscripted series about how life not only survived the disastrous events of prehistoric times, but thrived. The series aims to find out what lessons can be learned from past mass extinctions.

Surviving Earth is a joint production with Universal Television Alternative Studio and UK independent production company Loud Minds. Each hour-long episode will use digital technology to visualize prehistoric landscapes and events including meteorites, giant volcanic eruptions, boiling seas, and the moving of the Earth.

“This epic series of events promises to be unlike anything we’ve seen before, with cutting edge technology that recreates an immersive view of prehistoric land,” said Rod Isa, Executive Vice President of Unscripted Content for NBCUniversal Television and Streaming. “With a project of this magnitude, we are in excellent hands with Universal Television Alternative Studio and Loud Minds on board to bring it to life.”

“This documentary series brings to life the rich history of our planet to shine a light on its future,” said Toby Gorman, President of Universal Television Alternative Studio. “It is my pleasure to take advantage of the latest technology while diving into Earth’s prehistoric past along with our partners at Loud Minds. We are excited to bring this unparalleled project to NBC.”

“In an era where there is so much concern about our climate change, if we want to know our future we have to understand our past,” added Tim Haines, Creative Director of Loud Minds. “We are thrilled to bring to NBC this incredible story that celebrates the power of life on our ever-changing land.”
