Vecna’s origins in Stranger Things 4

Vecna is the new threat in Season 4 of Stranger Things. The disfigured creature wastes no time introducing itself because at the end of Episode 1, he begins to carry out his evil plan to brutally murder Chrissy Cunningham.

As the season progresses, Vecna’s killing spree continues with him targeting fellow troubled teens Fred Benson and Patrick McKinney. This is before he turns his attention to Max Mayfield, only to have the Hawkins gang reject his efforts.

During the first volume of season four, the kids try to discover more about the creature’s origins. They explore the fateful past of the Krill family.

However, it wasn’t until Episode 7 that it was revealed that Vecna’s ties to the Creel family are much closer than the gang initially thought because he was once the family’s son, Henry Creel.

After Eleven returns to Dr. Brenner to regain her power, she learns through a series of flashbacks that the organization she befriended in Hawkins’ lab, Peter Ballard, was actually Henry Creel himself. I found out that it was he who caused the brutal massacre in the lab.

Henry, also known by the name One due to being Brenner’s first subject, wanted Eleven to join him in his plan to destroy humanity. But when she refused, he attacked her.

The pair’s showdown ended with Eleven banishing Henry Creel for the Upside Down. Over several years it transformed into the twisted and deformed creature we now know as Vecna.

Vecna created Mind Flayer

It was revealed in the final episode of Stranger Things 4 and Vecna was responsible for creating Mind Flayer. Fans may remember this as the deadly monster the gang faced in seasons 2 and 3.

In Episode 9, Vecna details his isolation in Upside Down to Eleven. Explain how he came across many creatures in this new world including the Demogorgon.

We also see Vecna discover a huge, pulsating cloud in the sky made of upside-down particles. Using his powers, Vecna forms the dark cloud into a Mind Flayer creature.

At the same moment, we see memories of Vecna’s childhood as Henry Creel as he paints a picture of the monster himself, showing that it was always destined to rain down Hawkins.

Does Vecna Mind Control the Flayer?

Yes, Vecna controls the Mind Flayer and every creature we’ve seen come out of the Upside Down for good measure.

That’s because the particles that Vecna manipulated to become the brain Flayer make up a gigantic cell brain. She has the power to control all the monsters in the Upside Down from Demogorgons and Demodogs to the Demobats we see in Season 4.

Using his particle-forming powers in the Mind Flayer, Vecna also assumed control of the gigantic creature and, in turn, the Hive’s Mind.

The revelation also confirms that Vecna has been secretly pulling leads from inside the Upside Down from the start, allowing Demogorgons and Mind Flayer to venture into our world.

After being sent to the Upside Down in his defeat to Eleven, Vecna knew he needed time to recover and grow stronger. Dr. Brenner explainsWhen Vecna kills one of his victims, he ‘devours them’, using their life force to increase his power, which explains why he stays in the shadows until he finally joins the battle himself in Season 4.
