Disneyland social accounts hacked with racist and anti-gay messages

Disneyland’s Instagram and Facebook accounts were briefly hijacked by a hacker early Thursday, before the offending posts were removed and the company regained control.

“We have worked quickly to remove objectionable content, secure our accounts, and our security teams are conducting an investigation,” a Disneyland Resort spokesperson said in a statement.

Four posts appeared on Disneyland’s Instagram account around 4:30 a.m. Thursday, with one comment saying that the self-proclaimed “super hacker” was taking revenge on the theme park, Los Angeles Times mentioned. The posts included frequent use of the N-word as well as anti-gay slurs.

In an Instagram post, the hacker said his motive for the attack was revenge against “Disney employees making fun of me for my small penis,” according to photos of the now-deleted posts. The hacker also strangely claimed that he was credited with “inventing” COVID and said he was releasing a new strain of coronavirus.

Disneyland’s Instagram account has 8.4 million followers, and her Facebook page has over 16 million.

It is unclear how the hacker gained access to Disneyland’s social media accounts. Over the years, many media and celebrity accounts, including NFL and HBO accounts, have been hacked, and in the infamous 2020 Twitter attack, the handles of Kanye West, Apple, Jeff Bezos, Barack Obama, Elon Musk and more were taken.

The Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California includes two theme parks—Disneyland (the original Disney park) and Disney California Adventure Park—as well as three hotels and a Disney downtown area. Disney’s theme parks, experiences and products segment, which is mostly made up of theme parks, recorded revenue in the first three months of 2022 of $6.7 billion and operating income of $1.8 billion — a rebound from the coronavirus shutdowns in the past two years.
