Motorola has a new AR baseball game with San Diego Padres

Motorola today announces a new augmented reality game in collaboration with San Diego Padres. As previously revealed, the Major League Baseball uniform will have advertisements on its sleeves next season, and the Padres will have the Motorola logo. Through this new partnership, this game was also born.

The game uses the Snapdragon Spaces XR developer platform, powered by Motorola Edge Plus and Lenovo ThinkReality A3 smart glasses. If you’ve ever been to the Padres Hall of Fame in Petco Park, check it out.

“At Motorola, we truly believe in the power of partnership and collaboration to drive new technologies forward, and we are thrilled to partner with San Diego Padres to bring this exciting and innovative augmented reality fan experience to the Padres Hall of Fame,” said Rudy Khalil, Vice President and General Manager, North America, Motorola. “Many of us dream of being able to step onto the field and play ball with our favorite team and players, and through innovative technologies between Motorola, Lenovo and Qualcomm, we are making that dream a reality.”

The game itself is simple, straightforward and very fun. Up to four players can play simultaneously, and you have to shoot baseballs at targets on the field in Petco Park. Some are closer (and easier) than others, and some are moving. Hitting the target can achieve single, double, triple etc., depending on the difficulty of that target. You will also see some famous Padres floating around; After all, you’ll do it at Padres Hall of Fame.

At an event in Chicago sponsored by Motorola, I was able to get a feel of this experience. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to take pictures at the time, but like I said, it was a lot of fun. You basically target targets by looking at them, and then use the Motorola Edge Plus as a kind of controller. It’s a handy pick-me-up for first-time players, which is important since it’s going to be a demo at the Padres Hall of Fame.
