The spy thriller “El Italiano” gets a series of adaptations from Cattleya

After expanding in Spain, ITV-owned Italian Cattleya, the company behind “Gomorrah” and “ZeroZeroZero”, acquired the rights to Thriller and suspense “El Italiano” directed by Arturo Pérez-Reverte, which he plans to adapt into an advanced mini-series.

Inspired by true events, “El Italiano” is a story that combines romance and espionage at the height of World War II in the Gulf of Algeciras, Spain, where Italian frogmen using explosives wreak havoc among Allied forces by sinking several cargo ships.

The novel, which was recently a bestseller in Spanish-speaking countries, was published in Italy in June.

The “El Italiano” The project is headed by Arturo Díaz, and The former CEO of Netflix who last year joined Madrid-based Cattleya Producciones as its president, founder and president of Cattleya Ricardo Tozzi.

Díaz’s executive producer includes Netflix credits, where he has overseen series from Spain and Latin America, including the hugely successful Las Chicas de Cable, the longest-running non-US series. He also oversaw the development of the Elite and Rebelde programs.

Cattleya Producciones is currently selecting Spanish, Italian and English speaking actors to play in “El Italiano”.

Spanish screenwriter Beto Marini, co-author of the Movistar + “La Unidad” series, edits the book.

“When we read El Italiano,” he said, “it was impossible not to imagine a television series.” Diaz in a statement.

“We can sense the danger of being combative divers, the tension of being a spy crossing the border, and above all the passion of two very meticulous personalities,” Diaz He added, noting that this is “an ambitious international series that deserves a writer who represents Spain all over the world.”
