Even though the iPhone 13 Pro Max is one of the best phones in terms of battery life, it always seems to be dying.
This is by no means a device fault – it’s a schedule on the go that often leaves me disconnected from regular chargers. Pair that with a GPS dial to navigate around town and log hours of footage per day for tik tok channel tom guide (Opens in a new tab)And it makes sense that I’m always low on juice.
Someone tell this woman about portable chargers, right? I promise I’ve tried many portable charging banks over the years, but I’ve found that most of the options that offer bulky charges are huge. Walking around with my phone wired, strapped to a large charger, is awkward.
But thanks to MagSafe, there is finally a neat solution. While I’ll never forget the iPhone battery cases, which were recently available for the iPhone 11 series, Apple offers a neat alternative to the MagSafe-equipped iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 sets.
The Apple MagSafe battery pack is a game changer. When your iPhone 13 Pro Max goes down, the wireless charger can offer up to 40% endurance (the extra charge percentage is higher the smaller the iPhone, and it’s compatible up to iPhone 13 mini.)
I appreciate how the battery pack snaps into place on the back side of my iPhone, without adding a lot of extra heft. As someone whose phone practically sticks to their hands, I’ve become a fan of the MagSafe charger’s slim design.
It certainly doesn’t charge my phone as fast as the Apple 20W charger with USB-C, but it does keep my iPhone alive on those days I’m out and about for hours. When I finally get home, I can charge my device and battery pack back up using the 20W stationary charger on my desk.
Apple MagSafe Battery Pack – Is It Worth It?
I’ve found plenty of reasons to love the Apple MagSafe battery pack, and only one reason is the price. At $99, it’s more expensive than many of the best iPhone 13 Pro Max cases and other iPhone accessories. Although, note that I made my own customization with this Casetify $25 MagSafe Battery Pack Case Star Wars Themed (Opens in a new tab).)
Do I think it’s worth it? Absolutely, especially because it looks like MagSafe isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. The iPhone 14 lineup should include MagSafe, and MagSafe could finally be the key to the portless iPhone.
But if you’re hoping to get to try the MagSafe battery pack at a lower price, I’ve tested an alternative that actually has a larger 5,000mAh battery capacity. The Anker 622 Magnetic Battery Costs $69 on Amazon (Opens in a new tab)And it even features a stand that can support your iPhone. (Admittedly, the stand isn’t big enough for the Pro Max iPhone models, but it worked fine with my colleagues’ iPhone 13 Pro.)
If I could only use one between the two, I’d probably stick with the Apple MagSafe battery pack, since accessories made by Apple tend to work better with Apple devices. Not to mention I love the look of the Apple logo on the back of the cell.
But for $30 less, the Anker model is an excellent option, and it’s quickly becoming a great gift option for my friends and family who own MagSafe-compatible iPhones. You may also see a discount with Prime Day deals – Tom’s Guide will make sure to call the sale if that happens.
