‘Last Film Show’ won the London Indian Film Festival award

Pan Nalin’s cinematic poem “Last Film Show” (also known as “Chhello Show”) won an audience award at The Blue Orchid Hotels London Indian Film Festival, which was held in London, but also traveled to Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds between 23 June and 8 July 2022.

Nalin has previously had success at the festival with his other award-winning films including ‘Samsara’, ‘Valley of the Flowers’ and ‘Angry Indian Goddess’.

In the short film category Satijit Rai “Jaagran”, co-directed by Ritvik Joshi and Hardik Sadhwani, it won the LIFF Jury Prize. The jury awarded the film “for its engaging, nurturing, and intelligent exploration of a serious issue that everyone can identify with.” They also said they found him to be, “socially and politically intelligent, witty behaved and humorously funny.”

“The movie ‘Jagran’ was an overly ambitious 20-page dream we saw together,” Joshi and Sadwani said. “Miraculously, we assembled an experienced team who believed in the script, helped us learn and turn our dream into reality. Today, after we had the honor of receiving an award bearing the name Satyajit Ray on it, we are back to square one. We are back in the dream. Only this time, not only On the two of us. This one belongs to twenty other dreamers.”

Other awards were also given to actors Taapsee Pannu and Konkona Sen Sharma who received the Outstanding Achievement Awards, director and actor Nandita Das, and director Aparna Sen, who received the Icon Award.

“Making films on my own terms without a commercial settlement for 40 years has often seemed like an unpopular business, but now, after LIFF’s Icon Award I feel justified. Thank LIFF for continuing to believe in meaningful cinema,” the senator said.

“We are pleased that the festival’s drive to fully return to cinemas in UK cities London, Birmingham and Manchester has been responded to by record audiences. Some cinemas, such as BFI Southbank, have described the festival as a best-seller during this period. There is clearly a desire to return to The big screen, especially with the festival’s cocktail of high quality premieres with frequent guest appearances,” said festival director Kari Rajinder Sawyi.

“We had a parade of high-profile Indian talent into the festival, which was hard to ignore, led by our world premiere of horrific director Anurag Kashyap ‘Dobaaraa’, with Bollywood stars Taapsee Pannu and Pavail Gulati on the red carpet. The Power Tour of great independent actresses and directors. [continued with] Aparna Sen, Nandita Das and Konkona Sen Sharma, as well as British icon Mira Sial [and] Strongly cementing the festival’s image as a one-stop destination for intellectual, stimulating and fun discussion, young women in particular reported that the Q&A and talks were deeply inspiring.”
