Emerald Fennell writes “John Wick” Spinoff starring Ana de Armas

“Promising Young Woman” filmmaker Emerald Fennell teams up with Ana de Armas on “Ballerina,” a spin-off set in the John Wick movie world.

Vinyl is assisted by the film’s screenwriters Shay Hutten (2019 “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum”) and Len Wiseman (also directing) with the script. You may or may not receive credit for her work; Sources close to the project say the Writers Guild of America will eventually decide.

De Armas revealed the collaboration in Elle . magazinesaid she wanted to be closely involved in the behind-the-scenes operation for “Ballerina,” which focuses on a vigil resembling Keanu Reeves’ character in the original film series.

“It was really important for me to hire a writer, because until that moment when I got involved in the project, it was none other than the director, Len Wiseman, and another young man. And I said, ‘That’s not going to work.’ So I met, say, five or six female writers. “We hired Emerald Fennell, which I was very proud of,” de Armas told the magazine.

“Ballerina” follows de Armas as a young killer who seeks revenge on those who murdered her family. Other than the vague logical line, any details about the film – including De Armas’ co-stars – have been kept confidential.

Before “Ballerina” hits the big screen, Reeves – along with the nunchucks – will be back to kick the ass and take names in “John Wick: Chapter 4,” which is set to hit theaters March 24, 2023. The event’s first three installments – the franchise’s revenge Heavy was a commercial success, grossing $587 million worldwide. The fifth entry is already under development.

Vinyl landed prominently on Hollywood’s radar after winning an Oscar for screenwriting for “Promising Young Woman.” She previously worked as a presenter on the second season of ‘Killing Eve’ and most recently appeared in the Netflix royal drama ‘The Crown’ as Camilla Bowles.
