Pinar Toprak, whose billion-dollar stature in movies (“Captain Marvel”) and video games (“Fortnite”) has made her one of the world’s most sought-after composers, shattered another glass ceiling: She wrote the subject of Amazon Prime’s release, “with the launch of a pre-game Season August 25.
The Los Angeles-based composer recorded the theme and its multiple variations on July 8, performing a 70-piece orchestra at the Nashville Oceanway Studios. diverse She was there to preview the topic when she mixed it up with Grammy Award-winning engineer Alan Merson last week in Los Angeles.
According to Amazon officials, this is the first new theme music for an NFL package rights holder since John Williams penned “Wide Receiver” for NBC Sports in 2006. Toprak is also the first woman to compose an original theme for an NFL media package.
“The theme must be present and timeless,” Toprak said. “It needed to convey the strength, energy, and hard work that goes into a game, hopefully with a memorable theme. It’s always hard to make sure you’re writing something that’s like today, but in another 20 years, it will still look contemporary.”
The Toprak anthem is a triumphant earworm, brassy and heavy tympanic, that builds in intensity and strength over the course of three full minutes. Variations include a more stringently controlled but still rhythmically strong version; The alt-rock arrangement features electric guitars; and a fun “late night” version with piano and saxophone solos and a funky percussion section. They are all elaborately produced using electronic elements created in the Toprak studio.

The technical requirements amounted to much more than just writing and recording some themes and variations. In addition to the three-minute “extended” version, it has 60-second and 90-second versions and approximately 65 “cuts” of audio clips edited in as short as six seconds to meet a variety of practical recording needs.
“I have been fortunate to be involved in several NFL music projects, and this has been the most intelligent and collaborative approach ever,” said Fred Godeli, Executive Producer of “Friday Night Football” in a statement. “Pinar was fantastic from the start, and took a deep interest in our feedback. Along the way, he composed a score characterized by sharpness, drama, and a “barbaric hook” that gets inside and stays with you.
“You want the music to go to a lot of different places,” added Stacey. “We might need something high-energy, something more dramatic, a little jazzy… pungent stuff, or it lasts longer. The music goes in a lot of different directions. We think it’s a really standard topic.”
