“Fireheart” Animation Studio L’Atelier acquired by Cinesite

Cinesite has acquired the Montreal studio L’Atelier Animation, the outfit behind the popular 3D animated film “Leap!” and “Heart of Fire”.

Cinesite, which operates in London, Montreal and Vancouver as well as VFX partner Trixter studios in Germany and Image Engine in Vancouver, said the deal will increase its creative and production capacity to meet demand in Quebec and elsewhere. L’Atelier Animation’s management team, led by General Manager Benoit Blouin, will work with Cinesite Animation COO Brad Wald to merge the two companies and expand their footprint in Montreal.

L’Atelier Animation specializes in animation and feature-length 3D series. Founded in Montreal since 2012 and is known for its “Leap!” (Caramel Films/Quads), which grossed about $110 million in international box office revenue. His most recent production is “Fireheart” (Entertainment One) produced by Les Films Seville, Anton, Main Journey, Caramel Films and M6 Films SND, featuring Olivia Cook, Kenneth Branagh and William Shatner. The studio has also worked on the series “Robozuna” (Kidscave Entertainment and ITV Studios) and is currently in production on the movie “10 Lives” (GFM animation), directed by Christopher Jenkins (“Duck Duck Goose”).

Cinesite has made 10 feature films, and recent credits include Paramount’s “Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank” and MGM’s The Addams Family franchise. The studio is working on the production of the upcoming Anniventure films “Hitpig” and “Animal Farm” as well as the Disney+ series “Iwaju”.
