The new Eve Motion has got a light sensor and it’s ready for Matter

Formerly part of Elgato, Eve has a new motion sensor available from today. Eve Motion costs just $40, doesn’t require a recharge, has some great new features, and most of all, it’s ready for the future.

Perhaps the most important part of Eve Motion is the thread support. This will be an integral part of Matter, the upcoming smart home standard. As such, Eve Motion is as future-proof as it is now. The Eve Motion is the HomeKit device, and Apple has committed to the HomeKit app, too. For now, you’ll need a proper HomeKit setup.

Besides bluetooth, Eve Motion supports thread. This technology makes your smart home network more responsive, powerful, and increases its reach — the only other thing you need is a new HomePod mini or Apple TV 4K. Battery-powered Thread extensions, such as Eve Motion, are the endpoints of your Thread network.

So what is the Eve movement all about? Well, for example, it requires AAA batteries, so you never need to wait to recharge them. Being a HomeKit device, you can control it with Siri or through the Apple Home app, but there are still additional features that you need the Eve app to access. This latest model adds a light sensor to the mix, so you can program actions based on both movements And the How much light is there? Ideal, for example, to automatically turn on the hallway lights when someone gets out of bed at night.

The new case is also IPX3 rated, which while hardly waterproof, expands the locations where you can safely use Eve Motion. And the great thing is that there is no cloud connection required. Eve Motion works on local connection only.

Eve Motion can be ordered now in the US for $40.
