AMC Bosses Nixed Rick Grimes Movies Limited Series According to Report

The world needs Rick Grimes, but in the wake of yesterday’s massive Comic-Con announcement of a Rick and Michonne Spinoff, Does the World Need a Rick Grimes Movie Trilogy? According to one report, AMC doesn’t think so, as studio brass reportedly chose to tell the final Rick Grimes stories as a limited series rather than finally committing to the much-anticipated films. After the character of Rick, played by Andrew Lincoln, he left the walking DeadSoon, it was announced that his fate would be revealed in a series of films that would focus on Rick’s journey back to his family. Later, Michonne (Danai Gurira) would follow him into the wild in hopes of finding and reuniting him.

The six-episode series would run roughly the same length as three feature films, so almost immediately after the ad dropped, fans started asking themselves what’s up. While AMC has yet to confirm this, diverseJustin Kroll, who has covered the show for years, says the movies are virtually dead.

“According to sources, the decision to go the Limited Series route came after a regime change at AMC Networks with the new leadership preferring to finish this story on their network rather than theaters,” Kroll said. on Twitter.

There’s no official word on why AMC chose a mini-series, rather than a trilogy of TV movies, but it could just be the timing. After all, a six-episode series could run for weeks in a row and deliver great, short-lived buzz in ratings. Movies will likely be spaced out one by one for months or years.

Until there’s word from executive producer Scott Gimple, who will act as a presenter on the miniseries, this is likely all speculation — but given Kroll’s goodwill and the content involved, it seems likely that the films are dead. Of course, that doesn’t mean AMC couldn’t do a Fathom Events-style show for the first two episodes and still bring in some money from fans who want to see Rick and Michonne on the big screen.

According to AMC, “This series presents the epic love story of two characters who are altered by a changing world. They are separated by a distance. With an unstoppable force. By ghosts from Kana. Rick and Michonne are thrown into another world, built on a war against the dead.. and eventually… A war against the living..Can they find each other and who were in a place and situation they had never known before? Are they enemies, lovers, victims, or victors? Without each other, are they alive—or will they also find that they are the walking dead?”
