The star changed her name from Norma Jean to Marilyn Monroe in 1946 after signing her contract with 20th Century Fox in August, and became known as Marilyn around the world. Many actors, even today, are changing their names to more recognizable names in order to further their careers.

Blonde is based on the novel of the same name by Joyce Carol Oates. Oates was inspired to write the book after seeing a photo of Norma Jean taken in 1944, when the star was just 17 years old.
