NBCUniversal Telemundo Adds Sandra Semster in a New Role

Sandra Smeister has been appointed Executive Vice President of Programming and Content Development at NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises.

In the newly created role, Smester will oversee the development and implementation of programming for the network. She will also be responsible for content acquisition, program planning and scheduling, as well as for the company’s Universal Cable Network. With over 25 years of experience programming Spanish-language content for Hispanic audiences in the US, Smester will work closely with existing development and production teams as well as Telemundo Global Studios.

Beginning in August, the CEO will report to Ronald Day, head of entertainment and content strategy at NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises. “Sandra is a world-class media executive and an accomplished programmer with a keen interest in great content, a long history of programming innovation, and a deep understanding of the Hispanic American media space,” Day said. “She has achieved impressive results at every stage of her career and is uniquely positioned to further Telemundo’s continued leadership, overseeing our best-in-class programs serving Latin audiences.”

Smeister most recently held the position of Executive Vice President and Head of Content at TV Azteca, where she oversaw content and distribution across the network’s linear and streaming shows. Previously, she was Executive Vice President and General Manager of Azteca Uno as well as Executive Vice President of Programming at Univision Communications.

“I am delighted to join Telemundo’s leadership team in this new position to support the continued growth of the business,” said Smeister. “For years, Telemundo has provided ground-breaking content, took risks with innovative programming decisions and brought a contemporary approach to our industry. I look forward to continuing this tradition, deepening the connection with their existing audiences and creating new Telemundo fans along the way.”
