CAA predicted ‘Rap Sh! t’ Director Sadé Clacken Joseph

CAA has signed with writer and director Sadé Clacken Joseph, who recently directed two episodes of “Rap Sh!t” for Issa Rae to star in.

The HBO Max comedy series stars Aida Osman, Cameleon, Jonica Booth and RJ Seller, with Serita Singleton in theaters. Joseph directed the pilot and second episode titled “Something for the City” and “Something for Girls” respectively. Both were released on July 21 to suggest widespread criticism.

It might be Rap Sh! t’ is actually ingrained, but there is something somewhat surreal about the experience of watching it,” miscellaneous Carolyn Framke wrote in her review of the series, examining how the comics “sway between its stories and those of its characters that its characters constantly post on Instagram.”

On the visual language of the display, Framke added: “The camera adopts the perspective of their phones during scrolling and Facetime; people view each other’s stories with suspicion and envy; the on-screen graphics send a series of comments and hearts on either side of the screen… and even when the TV zoom doesn’t seem to be for social media Social is especially realistic in terms of #content, seeing the world quite literally through Shawna (Osman) and Mia (KaMillion) eyes however make the song “Rap Sh! t’ is different, not to mention completely immersive.

Prior to her work on “Rap Sh!t”, Joseph directed the short film “Knight” starring Grammy Award-winning Robert Glaspier, which was Spotify’s first feature film produced through its “Black Girl Magic” platform. Additional credits include her work on the documentary Hope and Redemption Prison Tour and her short film Ponyboi, which premiered at the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival.

The Caribbean-American filmmaker, photographer, and singer from the Bronx is also the founder of Out of Many Media, a multimedia production house and creative group inspired by the African diaspora, with a mission to celebrate the colorful and complex stories of first generation immigrants and the magic of the Caribbean.

Joseph is a Columbia University graduate with a master’s degree from the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts. In addition to CAA, it is still managed by Natalia Williams at M88; Granderson de Rochers, LLP; The Rogers & Kwan PMK.
