Ellen Pompeo: Grey’s Anatomy must change the way it deals with social issues

“Grey’s Anatomy” has covered hundreds of social issues over the course of 18 seasons and 400 episodes, and more thematic stories are on the way as the show prepares for the return of season 19. However, Ellen Pompeo said in her final episode “Tell Me” podcast That long-running ABC medical drama needs to change the way it deals with stories about social issues. Pompeo is tired of one-off episodes and wants social issues to be more “brilliant” during the season.

“I think if I had any desire, frankly, it would be some sort of one-episode preaching about certain things,” Pompeo said. “It’s like, we’re doing one episode about let’s see…the Asian hate crimes are the ones we did last season that were really impressive. I think I’d like to see things happen more subtly over time. You know, it hits you constantly and kind of less on the Just hold your head for an hour and then never talk about it again.”

“I hope we can address these important social issues and have them intertwined all the time,” Pompeo added.

The actress has called “Grey’s Anatomy” her hometown for the past 18 seasons, but is backing out of the show in season 19. diverse Reported, Pompeo is scheduled to appear in only eight episodes of season 19. She will continue to narrate each episode as well as serve as executive producer.

News of Pompeo’s “Grey’s Anatomy” downsizing has been confirmed along with her participation in a new limited-edition Hulu untitled series. Pompeo is set to play one half of a Midwestern couple who adopt what they believe to be an 8-year-old girl with a rare form of dwarfism. When the couple began raising her alongside their three biological children, the couple slowly began to believe that she might not be what she says.

Hulu gave the new series an eight-episode arrangement. Katie Robbins (“The Affair”, “The Last Tycoon”) writes and executive produces, with Pompeo set to executive produce under her Calamity Jane production banner.
