Alexander Skarsgård, Nicholas Braun, French actress Lilian Rovier and others joined the cast in the 53rd season of Documentary Now! The International Finance Corporation announced on Friday. The channel has also released a teaser at first sight as well as final details of two new episodes to complete the season.
Known for his tribute to the documentary world, Documentary Now! Season 53 will begin on Wednesday, October 19 at 10pm at IFC and on AMC+ on the same day. New episodes will start each week on Wednesdays.
The first episode of the two-part season “Soldier of Illusion” by John Mulaney and starring Skarsgård, Brown and August Dale was inspired by the documentary “The Burden of Dreams” focused on Werner Herzog. ” Set in the early 1980s, this episode follows a visionary German filmmaker (Skarsgård) as he attempts to bring out his greatest creativity while working in the punishing hinterland of Russia’s Ular Mountains. Kevin Bishop, Jana Bayarsekhan, Matthias Rembler and Fred Armisen will also star in Documentary Now! Alumni band Deep Hit is back as story teller.
“Trouver Frisson,” which pays homage to the Agnes Varda films, starring Rovère and Ronald Guttman. Inspired by Varda “Gleaners and I” and “Beaches of Agnes” The episode features Rovier as a famous French filmmaker named Ida Leos as she searches for why she isn’t exposed anymore. “frisson”—the goosebumps who always had her guide. Written by series producers Matt Bacolt and Tamsin Rawady and co-directed by Micah Gardner, the episode also stars Documentary Now!” alumni Gary Krause.
The two newly announced installments join the previously announced episodes of “Two Hairdressers in Bagglyport”, “How They Threw Rocks” and “My Monkey Grifter”. The upcoming season of the popular comedy – co-created by Armisen, Bill Hader, Seth Meyers and Rhys Thomas – is produced by Lorne Michaels and produced by Broadway Video.
