Director, writer, and star James Morosini accepts “I love my father” and tells how he prepared for his bizarre scenes with superstar Patton Oswalt.

Based on Morosini’s true-to-life experience from his father, new indie comedian Patton Oswalt stars as Chuck, a father who desperately tries to keep in touch with his estranged son by posing as an internet woman named Becca (Claudia Soliwski). During a scene in which Franklin (Morosini) asks “Becca” if he can pretend to kiss her through their messages, Chuck depicts the disturbing scenario of his son actually fighting it rather than his online persona. The film also stars Amy Landecker, Lil’ Ral Horie, and Rachel Drach.
“The fact that something so absurd and perfect can happen to a writer, director and actor of his own caliber is a perfect marriage,” said Landecker, who plays Morosini’s mother Diane.. “He had the perfect story, and he had all the abilities to turn it into a movie.”
“I Love My Dad” is Morosini’s second directorial effort, after his 2018 independent film “Threesomething”.
“He doesn’t have a lot of preconceived ideas or expectations about, ‘Well, the audience wants to see this, this, this and that,'” Oswalt said of his director and co-star. “Everything he did and all his techniques were new and unprecedented. Really fun to see that.”

The film also marks YouTube star Sulewski’s second role after the 2019 indie horror film Deadcon. “I felt like a con man surrounded by such professionals and comedy geniuses,” she said of her first day on the set of playing Becca.
“But really, everyone was just too great to be around,” Solowsky continued. “Especially watching Patton act with such intense and emotional scenes, and watching him add so much oomph to the room in between those shots – even though what he was going through with Chuck was so intense – it was so cool to see his soul go out on set and make us all feel Really comfortable.”
