Antonio Banderas, Jonathan Rhys-Myers, Melissa Leo Join Action Comedy

Jonathan Rhys-Myers, Melissa Liu and Antonio Banderas have joined the cast of “Clean-Up Crew,” an action comedy from Yale Entertainment.

Directed by John Keyes, Clean-Up Crew focuses on a crime scene cleanup team that discovers a bag full of cash at the crime scene. This discovery puts them in battle with a crime boss, a death killer and corrupt government agents looking for money. Myers and Leo play the heads of the cleaning crew, while Banderas plays the crime boss who is looking for the bag.

The film was shot in Ireland, and production recently concluded. Matthew Rogers wrote the screenplay for the film, which was produced by Jordan Yale Levine, Jordan Pekerman, and Michael Rothstein for Yale, Richard Bolger, Conor Barry of Hill Mary Pictures, Richard Klapow, Stephen Brown, and Kurt Ebner. Great Escape will handle Yale’s sales banner with international rights to the project, which it aims to sell at the Toronto Film Festival in September.

Hollywood Foreign Press Association appoints two new members to its board of directors

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has elected Vera Anderson and Earl Gibson III to its board of directors, the organization announced Monday.

Both are longtime members of the organization, which is best known for producing the annual Golden Globe Awards. Anderson has been a member since 1996, and has worked as a journalist and photographer, including as chief correspondent for the Mexican magazine Cine Premiere. Gibson is a photojournalist who contributes to ShutterStock, Associated Press, and Getty Images, and serves as a principal photographer for the NAACP Image Awards and “An Evening of Stars” for the United Negro College Fund. In addition to Anderson and Gibson, current board members Barbara Jacir and Tina Jonke Christensen have been re-elected to their positions.

“At this important time of transition, we welcome the contributions of new directors Vera Anderson and Earl Gibson III,” HFPA President Helen Hoen said in a statement. “Their voices will be added as we continue the important work of supporting diversity, sustaining our philanthropic efforts, and promoting journalistic opportunities in this challenging economic climate.”

Warhol’s 1972 film “Scarecrow in a Garden of Cucumbers” for the DCP’s world premiere at Les Femmes Underground Festival

The rare Andy Warhol-inspired film “Scarecrow in a Garden of Cucumbers” will have its world premiere for DCP during the 6th Les Femmes Underground International Film Festival on August 13 at the Aero Theatre. Robert J. Kaplan directed the 1972 film that follows Eve, an aspiring actress from Kansas, played by transgender Puerto Rican actress Holly Woodlawn, who navigates New York City and encounters a host of fascinating characters along the way.

The non-profit film festival exclusively showcases feminist experimental art and alternative films, with highlights featuring fourth-wave feminist cinema and other works. Advance tickets for the show are available now or at the door.
