Cary Grant Biopic ‘Archie’ Prepared by ITV Studios, Jason Isaacs to Star

Harry Potter star Jason Isaacs has been cast as classic Hollywood star Cary Grant in a new biopic.

The four-part dramatic series Archie will tell the story of Grant’s life, from his humble beginnings as Archibald Alexander Leach in Bristol, UK, to the pioneering man he became later in his life.

Written by “Philomena” writer John Pope with directed by Paul Andrew Williams (“Confession”).

“Archie” will premiere on ITV’s UK streaming platform ITV later this year before airing on ITV in the following months. International sales have not been announced.

The drama is produced by ITV Studios with co-production partner BritBox International. Rebecca Hodgson is set to produce while Grant’s daughter, Jennifer Grant, and ex-wife Diane Cannon produce the exec.

“There was only one Cary Grant, and I wouldn’t be stupid enough to try on his iconic shoes,” Isaacs said in a statement. Archie Leach, on the other hand, could not be further from the character he invented to save himself. Jeff’s wonderful texts bring to life his tireless struggle to escape the demons that have plagued him, his intense need for control, his fears, weaknesses, love and losses. It is the story of a man , not a legend, and those are shoes I can’t wait to get into.”

Bob added: “As with many of my projects, I eventually started and worked backwards. I found out that at the height of his fame, Cary Grant retired to look after his young daughter. Intrigued, I began researching why he was a single father. What happened? My trip led me to Bristol. And a young boy named Archie Leach. Cary Grant became one of the most famous personalities of the 20th century, loved by presidents and poor people. The key to everything lies in his childhood.”
