Samsung adds Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 4 to remote testing lab

Samsung has allowed Android developers to rate their apps on the latest generation of foldable devices – the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 4 – even if they don’t have the hardware on hand. In an effort to simplify the various test scenarios related to the form factor, the Korean manufacturer has now added these new flagship devices to its Remote Test Lab service.

For those unaware, the Samsung Remote Test Lab (RTL) initiative gives app developers a way to debug their apps on physical Samsung Galaxy devices connected to the cloud, allowing them to measure and fine-tune the real-world performance of their apps before they are rolled out at scale. . This is much better than typical software emulation or virtualization, plus anyone can test the behavior of their app using hardware-oriented features like flex mode and app continuity.

The Galaxy Z Fold 4 is Samsung’s latest flagship foldable phone, and it brings a lot of improvements over its predecessor.

The RTL platform is available for free. To use the service, all you need is a reliable internet connection, a free Samsung Developers account, Java Runtime Environment 7 or later with Java Web Start installed, and you are good to go. The company provides 20 daily credits to each user, which they can spend for 5 hours of remote access to cloud-based mobile devices per day.

Apart from installing APK files remotely, developers can make screenshots, screen recordings, and test automation scripts. You can also choose the language you want to test the device in, and the service also lets you share your screen with your partner so you can debug your apps together.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 offers many improvements over its predecessors for an overall comprehensive experience.

Unfortunately, Remote Test Lab does not support additional hardware peripherals, and you cannot run experiments that include calling or sending SMS. But despite its limitations, it goes a long way in making development easier, especially for remote workers.

At the time of writing, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 are available at Samsung’s remote lab for testing in Brazil, South Korea, Poland, Russia, and the UK, but they can be accessed from anywhere around the world.
