“I started trying to figure out how to create wealth for generations. The quickest way to do that and the first way you should do that is to buy some land,” Haddish said (via Indiewire). “So before we got into season two of The Carmichael Show, I bought a house. Everyone told me I had to wait, but I didn’t care. I just knew I would always have to earn enough money to take care of me and the house, and that’s what I did.”
Haddish continued, “Between the next season of the show, Keanu, and making sure I could live comfortably off $500 a month, I was able to pay off half of the house. The Girls’ Journey check was the last choice. People told me to spend it in other ways, But I used it to pay the house rent because I was always afraid of being homeless again.”
“Now I have a surplus of money,” he concluded. “But I still feared that I would be poor again. In every movie I made, I would buy another piece of land or a house.”
“Girl Trip” had a star from Haddish, who won a New York Film Critics Circle Award for supporting the actress. The 2017 Summer Comedy has co-starred with Regina Hall, Queen Latifah and Jada Pinkett Smith. The film was a huge success at the box office, grossing $140 million worldwide on a production budget of $19 million. Director Malcolm D. Lee said a sequel is still in the works, but Universal Pictures has yet to announce anything official.
