How does the Amazon ‘League of Their Own’ Cast compare to the 1992 movie lineup

“Broad City” creator Abby Jacobson and “Mozart in the Jungle” executive producer Will Graham have partnered to give “A League of Their Own” a modern twist to the upcoming Amazon Prime Video series, focusing on LGBT stories and the struggles of black women athletes to play Baseball during the World War II era. The series, which debuted this weekend, follows the basic plot of the 1992 Penny Marshall movie of the same name: a hunter with a distant war husband soon becomes a team leader, played by Jacobson in the update. Nick Offerman has donned a role equivalent to Tom Hanks as a disgraced star player-turned-manager. Here’s how the show stacks up against the 30-year-old, who introduced Rosie O’Donnell to Madonna’s pal and was itself an adaptation of the late ’80s documentary of the same name.

Abbi Jacobson plays catcher Carson Shaw, a reluctant captain who explores the unexpected feelings of his teammate while her husband works abroad.

Gina orders Davis to work behind the board and off the court as Dottie Hinson, who searches for her sister Kit while waiting for her soldier husband to return.

Shantee Adams sensitively portrays the anxious Max Chapman, a talented black bowler who has been banned from playing because of her race and gender; She also has a secret romantic life.

Tom Hanks, who starred in Marshall’s “Big,” is the drunken director who indignantly utters the movie’s most famous phrase: “There’s no crying in baseball.”
