The Batgirl composer wrote 90 minutes of original music before the movie was canceled

It’s been two weeks since Warner Bros. It won’t release “Batgirl” in theaters or on HBO Max, instead opting to scrap a tax on its $90 million comic book column. In a new interview with movie discussionComposer Natalie Holt called the studio’s decision to cancel the film a “great disgrace.” Holt, an Emmy-nominated for her work on Marvel’s “Loki,” worked for a year on the score for “Batgirl” and had 90 minutes of original music written when word reached that the film had been postponed.

“I wrote about an hour and a half of music,” Holt said. “I’ve been working on her for a year now. So yeah, very sad about what happened to her. I was on the set last Christmas, [directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah] I really liked ‘Loki’ which is why I was chosen to score ‘Batgirl’. So it’s a shame that he wouldn’t be around in the world after all this time, like spending a year working on it. Yes, very disappointing.”

“I think it’s a huge shame,” added Holt, who also scored Obi-Wan Kenobi’s goal this year. “It has been a pleasure working with the people involved, but that’s all I can say.”

“Batgirl” is designed to be shown on HBO Max, but new leadership at Warner Bros. Only interested in comic book columns debuting in theaters. The Batgirl movie lacked large set pieces to secure a theatrical release, so the studio decided to cancel the film’s release entirely.

“We are saddened and shocked by the news. We still can’t believe it,” the director wrote in a statement about the film’s cancellation. “As directors, it is critical that our work is shown to audiences, and while the film is far from finished, we hope that fans around the world will have the opportunity to see and embrace the final film for themselves. Perhaps one day they will, God willing.”

“Batgirl” star Leslie Grace shared her own statement in the wake of the film’s exclusion, writing, “I feel so lucky to have worked among the absolute greats and forged a lifelong relationship in the process! To every Batgirl fan – thank you for the love and faith, allowing me to wear the abaya and become , as Babs best said, “My damn hero!” Batgirl for life!
