2022 Final Four: TSU, HBU, UH and Rice University to offer collegiate basketball tournament course in the fall!

Houston, Texas (KTRK) – Houston will be the official host city for the 2023 NCAA men’s final tournament in over seven months. During that time, schools placing their tickets to the stadiums here in Space City will make history. And the lucky students from the universities here in Houston will be a part of that.

“We have strategic priorities in men’s basketball, and one of those priorities is to advance education,” Joan Scott, managing director of the NCAA men’s basketball, told ABC13.

“That falls right in it.”

We have seen the Final Fourth Court. Now we’ll see a final four-cycle.

“There is no such thing as planning an event for more than 75,000 people,” said Holly Kesterson, chair of the Houston Local Organizing Committee.

The Houston Local Organizing Committee for Final Four recently launched the first college class of its kind.

Business in Major Sporting Events is a two-semester course for academic credit, which will allow 60 students from Houston Baptist University, Rice University, Texas Southern University, and University of Houston to be part of planning for the fourth final this coming April.

Westfield High School graduate and TSU graduate student Lance Bledsoe are enrolled in the course.

“I am just so lucky to have had this opportunity,” Bledsoe said. “Not many people get that opportunity, but I did, so I’m very fortunate.”

Professors will be teaching the course from next year’s Final Four, UH, TSU, Rice and HBU institutions.

Diversity and collaboration are among the things our city does best.

“It’s all about communication, especially in the world of sports,” Bledsoe said. “I feel like this is the perfect opportunity.”

“Four institutions come together to present ideas and themes – bringing those ideas together,” Kesterson added.

“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and we’re glad you’re having it.”

Scott revealed, “One of the comments I made when we were taking photos was suggesting that these students keep this photo.” “Because you’re probably working on a future quad final here in this city.”

So, while we wait to learn the schools that will make up the men’s 2023 NCAA final here in Houston, we may already know which universities will be part of the next university that our city hosts.
