Fernandes thinks Matthews Nunes should have come to Manchester United

Bruno Fernandes has said he wants to sign new Wolverhampton Wanderers Matthew Nunes to join him at Manchester United this summer.

Wolves recently made headlines with their £40.5m purchase of Nunes from Sporting Lisbon, and he has already made a good impression on the club.

The Portugal international received his first game against Tottenham Hotspur earlier today, and was inches from scoring his first goal for the Midlands side.

Nunes finished the match with a passing accuracy of 97%, while winning three tackles and six duels. The 23-year-old already looks like a great signing for the Wolves.

Thus, there are no surprises that fellow countryman Fernandez has been praising him. In a recent interview with Record, the 27-year-old said Nunes should have come to United instead.

The Red Devils playmaker has gone on to say the Premier League is for him, and believes Nunes is likely to explode in the league and show his qualities.

He said: “I already spoke to him, and told him he should have come to Manchester United and not go to Wolverhampton. I’m sure he could potentially explode in the league and show his qualities – the Premier League is made for him.”

United were linked with Nunes earlier this summer, but no negotiations have taken place with Sporting.

There have also been suggestions that Manchester City or Liverpool could move away from Lisbon, and Wolves have done an incredible job of securing his signature.

He looked up for the challenge in the meager 1-0 loss to Spurs, and it remains to be seen if he can continue to perform with the same intensity through the entire season.

If he manages to do so, many elite European clubs may be interested in him. United could also make a future move, but Wolves will surely charge a hefty fee.

United have spent most of this summer trying to sign Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona when they could have looked elsewhere. Nunes would have been an easy acquisition.

However, they made a big statement to drop Casemiro from Real Madrid. The Brazilian superstar is widely considered one of the best midfielders in the world.

The club are planning to spend big in the last 12 days of the transfer window, and they appear positive about Ajax landing winger Anthony despite his £84m price tag.

Liverpool prepares to offer the Premier League midfielder

According to StudioFutbol via (h/t Liverpool Echo), he claimed Liverpool are preparing to offer Moises Caicedo from Brighton and Hove Albion, who appears uninterested in a move to Manchester United.

The 20-year-old moved to Amex Stadium in February 2021, on deadline from Belgian side Berchot on loan in August 2021 but returned to Sussex in January due to a shortage of midfielders for Graham Potter.

The Ecuadorean international was also exposed to scouting by Manchester United prior to his move to Brighton. In 10 matches in the Premier League, the midfielder has one goal and one assist to his name.

This season, he started in both Brighton matches, against Manchester United at Old Trafford and Newcastle United at home. Graham Potter started his number 25 defensive midfield in both games.

His role is set to increase this season over last season, with Brighton ditching Yves Bisoma, who had been an integral part of Potter and his team. With Liverpool in the race to sign Caicedo, the Seagulls are in danger of losing another one of their potential talents.

A defensive midfielder can primarily play as a central midfield. He could put in a great performance as a replacement for our midfield division, Fabinho. At only twenty years old, Kaiseido has a very long career ahead.

With injury risk looming at Liverpool’s head, it would be a reasonable decision to sign a midfielder this window. If the club are considering a move to Ecuador, it would show that they believe Caicedo is the right player at the moment. The fact that he is so versatile in midfield could be a huge boost to the cause for Liverpool, who have little depth there.

He also participated in 23 matches with his country, where the Ecuadorean scored two goals and made four assists.

Liverpool plays Manchester United at Old Trafford on Monday. Back-to-back matches at home against Bournemouth and Newcastle United follow the Northwest derby.
