Road Wave wins second place on the album; Nicki Minaj’s single debuted on top

Florida rapper Road Wave has had his second number-one album debut with his fourth studio debut, “Beautiful Mind”, topping the Billboard 200 chart with 115,000 equivalent album units.

Meanwhile, this week’s Billboard Hot 100 tops Nicki Minaj’s Rick James – “Super Freaky Girl,” which earned the rapper her number one spot as a solo artist. The track, which quickly became a streaming favorite (21.1 million streams in its first week), is her number three on the songs chart (after two collaborations that peaked in 2020: Trollz’ Song with 6ix9ine and “Say It,” with Doja Cat).

Minaj’s out-of-the-box success with “Super Freaky Girl” is not just a milestone for her, but for all female rappers, in this century at least. It’s the first female hip-hop song debut without any accompanying features since Lauren Hill’s “Doo Wop (That Thing)” in 1998.

Rod Wave’s “Beautiful Mind,” which ranked 200 on the “Beautiful Mind” list last year, came after “SoulFly,” which also debuted at number one on the album chart, with Billboard Reports. The new 24-track album was introduced with the single “Cold December,” which debuted in January and gave Wave their sixth best single on the 40 charts. Prior to his recent efforts in the studio, Wave also appeared in the top ten on the Billboard 200 with the hits “Pray 4 Love” of 2020 (No. 2) and “Ghetto Gospel” (No. 10) of 2019.

“Beautiful Mind” managed to knock Bad Bunny’s “Un Verano Sin Ti” from the top spot on the album chart — just a week after it regained the spot from Beyoncé’s “Renaissance.” However, “Un Verano Sin Ti” shows no signs of slowing down after eight non-consecutive weeks at number one, with 108,000 album-equivalent units in the frame (down less than 1% from last week). While “Renaissance” drops in third place with 64,000 units

Megan Thee Stallion ranked fifth on the Top 10 charts with the release of her second album, “Traumazine”, which came in at number four with 63,000 album equivalent units. The album was somewhat of a surprise as its arrival was announced just a day before its August 12 premiere. The group topped a string of singles including “Sweetest Pie” with Dua Lipa, “Plan B” and “Pressurelicious, with Future.”

The albums hold on the album chart continues with YoungBoy’s Never Broke once again “The Last Slimeto” which took fifth in its second week with 50,000 equivalent album units, and Morgan Wallen’s “Dangerous: The Double Album” slipped to number six. Harry Styles’ Harry Styles movie also drops a few points to No. 7, with 43,000 units.

The Weeknd’s 2021 compilation album “The Highlights” is back in the top ten – at number eight from the previous 36 – with just over 28,000 units grossing. The group’s emergence is largely due to TEA and SEA unit measurements for songs such as “Blinding Lights” and “Save Your Tears”, with the activity of these tracks correlating with the top-selling traditional albums in a week. Future I Never Like You drops from 7 to 9 with 28,000 equivalent album units, while Olivia Rodrigo’s single is ranked tenth with 25,000 units.

Back on the Hot 100, the chart-topping songs after Minaj’s arc begin sizzling with Harry Styles’ song “As It Was” which spent 10 weeks at the top. Lizzo’s “About Damn Time” remained at number three after topping the chart previously for two weeks. Beyoncé’s “Break My Soul” has slipped to number four, after hitting the number one spot for the second time in the past two weeks a week ago. Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God)” is ranked 4-5 after reaching the top of No. 3.

“Bad Habit,” Steve Lacey’s top 10 hits on the chart, remained at number six, while Nikki Yuer and Dazzy’s “Sunroof” climbed to number seven on a new peak. Future U’s “Wait for U,” featuring Drake and Tems, drops to eighth. Bad Bunny and Chencho Corleone’s “Me Porto Bonito” made the jump 11-9; Tenth place is occupied by Post Malone’s “I Like You (A Happier Song)” featuring Doja Cat.
