The media industry and the entertainment association pledge to end bullying on TV

UK Performing and Leisure Arts Syndicate released a Statement of Commitment Against bullying, harassment and inappropriate behavior on television.

The manifesto was developed by 21 major British and international organisations, including AMC, Apple TV+, BBC, The Casting Director Guild, Channel 4 and Channel 5, The Co-operative Personal Management Association, Disney, Equity, HBO, Intimacy directors and coordinators and ITV Studios, Northern Ireland Screen, Pact, Paramount, Personal Managers Association, S4C, Screen Scotland, Sky, TAC, Warner Bros.

Al-Insaf called for a meeting of these organizations and together they came to a pledge to create a work environment in which everyone is treated with dignity and respect – and bullying and harassment are not tolerated – with any issues raised quickly being responded to and action taken.

Practically speaking, this means establishing safe testing and testing spaces, where professional recruitment standards will be adopted and exams conducted in appropriate workplaces; Producers will have clear respect in their business policies, which include a process for filing and addressing concerns and complaints about bullying and harassment.

Furthermore, information will be shared with cast and crew on how to raise concerns if they have either been the victim of or seen inappropriate behavior, for example, information on call sheets and display in public areas, access to support helplines and whistleblowing details About the protection contact for each production; The cast and crew will complete anti-bullying and harassment training before work begins.

Additionally, a Protective Contact: An appropriately trained senior member will be assigned to the production team and can be contacted and can proactively make any necessary adjustments; For nudity and simulated sexual acts, prior written notification of the extent and extent of nudity and/or simulated sex required will be given, followed by discussion and agreement with the artist. For scenes of an intimate nature, an intimate coordinator will be involved if accepted by the actors involved.

Linda Rock, President of Equity, said: “On behalf of every artist who has been bullied and harassed during their working lives on screen, I welcome this commitment by industry representatives to create a safe work environment where everyone is treated with dignity and respect. But creating an inclusive and respectful culture requires action, not just action. Words, and I encourage all those working in this sector to acknowledge their individual responsibility to report inappropriate behavior and to unite against any pressure to remain silent on these issues.”
