John Boyega has never hesitated to speak publicly about the racial bullying he suffered because of his Finnish work on the Star Wars franchise. Things got so bad, he held a meeting with the directors of Disney and Lucasfilm to express his disappointment that they were not supported during the targeted attacks.
While Boyega has now said he has no plans to return to Star Wars, he’s proud to have “Obi-Wan” star Ewan McGregor come to the defense of teammate Moses Ingram after she became the target of online hate when their series first premiered. Disney+ in May.

I met Boyega while he was promoting his new drama, Breaking. Based on a true story, the actor stars in the movie as Brian Brown-Easley, a Marine veteran who took several people hostage in a bank in 2017 after saying he was mistreated by Veterans Affairs.
“For me as an actor, it was about immersing myself in the experience, understanding what it’s really like for people going through that scenario in real life and comparing those general points and observations to what the specific situation is for Brian,” Boyega explains. “Because I can’t just go in and I want to know what Brian’s situation is. It’s just the whole scope of what he’s actually feeling, what makes a person decide to join the military, wanting to get out there and fight and defend.”
He continues, “I thank the Lord for the information we have there, both in terms of clear texts and documentation and then the Internet. I was just immersing myself in what is perspective. How do they really feel? Not all academic things, but how do they really feel through the process? And in what way can I materialize That’s when I go to make the show?”
While the work was emotional and intense, Boyega says he was able to brush it aside when the cameras stopped rolling all day. “I’ve always kept a consistent sense of only the third person, the John Boyega way,” he says. “I always say, ‘He’s waiting at the trailer door.’ , [and putting] on a hat.”
