Showtime launches Mahmoud Abdel Raouf’s documentary (TV News Report)

Showtime Sports Documentary is preparing to release a documentary film based on the life of basketball star Mahmoud Abdel Raouf, titled “Stop”. The documentary will premiere in early 2023.

Directed by Jocelyn Rose Lyons, “Stand” explores the personal and professional struggles of Abdul Rauf, from being bullied as a child by Tourette’s syndrome to becoming the target of hate speech and Islamophobia during his football career. The documentary features exclusive interviews with several basketball and entertainment stars including Stephen Curry, Steve Kerr, Shaquille O’Neal, Jalen Rose, Mahershala Ali and Ice Cube.

“It is an honor to be collaborating with Showtime and the production team and to work with director Jocelyn Rose Lyons,” Abdel Raouf said in a statement. “Jocelyn brought such a wonderful, wonderful vision to this film. I hope my story will help heal and bring a new perspective to the world.”

The film marks Lyons’ directorial debut. Executive Producer Sarah Allen along with Mike Tulane and Mason Gordon of MSM are producing. Coleen Dominguez works as a producer with Tom Friend and consulting producer David Kelly.

• Hulu has released the official trailer for “Best in Dough,” an upcoming pizza contest series hosted by “Bachelor in Heaven” star Wells Adams. The series premiered on September 19 with the first three episodes. In “Best in Dough,” contestants will showcase their pizza-making skills in front of the judging panel, Chef Daniele Odetti of Pizzana Restaurant, as well as judges Chef Millie Petrie and Baker Brian Ford. • Apple TV Plus announced on Thursday the premiere date for the second season of the Emmy-nominated series “The Problem With Jon Stewart.” The six-episode season will return worldwide starting October 7. The series, hosted by Stewart, focuses on topical issues, with conversations from the perspectives of stakeholders, experts, and individuals dealing with these current situations. The series is produced by Stewart through Busboy Productions. Showrunner Brinda Adhikari executive produced alongside James Dixon, Chris McShane and Richard Plepler through Eden Productions. HBO Documentary Films has acquired the worldwide television and live broadcast rights to “Master of Light”. The documentary, directed by Rosa Ruth Boystein, follows George Anthony Morton – a classic painter who spent a decade in federal prison for drug abuse – and his life after prison. “Master of Light” is produced by A One Story Up and Docmakers & Vulcan Productions, and Roger Ross Williams, Elijah Romans, and Anusha Nozomi also serve as producers. Judy Allen, Ruth Johnston, Rocky Collins, Jannat Garghi and Jeff Martz executive produce the series.
