‘House of the Dragon’ Season 2 Coming on HBO

“House of the Dragon” is coming hot on HBO, with an early renewal for a second season.

The renewal comes as a small surprise, given HBO’s financial investment in the show as well as the fact that the premiere broke HBO’s record for largest audience ever. Nearly 10 million people watched across all platforms last Sunday, and HBO now claims that number has risen to 20 million after four days of operation.

“We are proud of what the entire ‘House of the Dragon’ team accomplished in season one,” said Francesca Orsi, executive vice president of programming for HBO. “Our cast and cast have defied tremendously and exceeded all expectations, delivering a show that has already proven itself as a must-watch TV show. Thank you so much to George, Ryan and Miguel for leading us on this journey. We couldn’t be more excited to continue bringing the epic saga of House Targaryen to life with the season Second “.

The series is set 200 years before the events of HBO’s “Game of Thrones” and based on the book “Fire & Blood” by George R. R. Martin from the “A Song of Ice and Fire” universe, “House of the Dragon” tells the story of House Targaryen.

While the second season renewal of “House of the Dragon” was guaranteed – Martin and co. They were already talking about plans for a second season during their session at San Diego Comic-Con in July — the fact that HBO made the casting after airing just one episode shows how much parent Warner Bros. Discovery trusts the series before any big reaction from viewers.

With 10 episodes costing just under $20 million to produce, “House of the Dragon” is a years-long effort by the HBO team led by Chief Content Officer Casey Bloys to find a worthy following on “Game of Thrones.”

“House of the Dragon” starring Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma Darcy, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Fabian Frankl, Sonoya Mizuno, Rhys Evans. Additional cast includes Millie Alcock, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Emily Carey, Harry Colette, Ryan Core, Tom Glenn Carney, Jefferson Hall, David Horowitz, Will Johnson, John Macmillan, Graham McTavich, Ewan Mitchell, Theo Nate, Matthew Needham , Bill Patterson, Via Saban, Gavin Spocks, and Savannah Stein.

Martin co-created the series with Ryan Condall, who co-starred in the show alongside “Game of Thrones” director Miguel Saposhnik. Additional executive producers include Sarah Hess, Jocelyn Diaz, Vince Gerardes, and Ron Schmidt.

“House of the Dragon” airs Sundays at 9:00 on HBO and begins airing at that time on HBO Max.
