Loco Films acquires San Sebastian-era Biopic Il Boemo

Loco Films has acquired the international sales rights to Petr Václav’s acclaimed film “Il Boemo” which is showing its world premiere at the official selection at the San Sebastian Film Festival.

The epic period film highlights the extraordinary life of Joseph Myslevecic, one of Italy’s most prolific opera composers of the 18th century who inspired Mozart and became his friend.

The Czech director said that since “the archives of Myslevsk were not abundant, he studied the lives of other composers, especially Mozart (…) and read all the correspondence, memoirs and books of possible travels in Italy, which were written in the eighteenth century . ” Vaclav also worked with senior Experts in the life and work of Mysliveček, notably the American musicologist Daniel E. Freeman and the Czech music historian Stanislav Pohadlo.

Laurent Danielo and Arnaud Godart of Locco said they believed that “viewers will be dazzled by the beauty and grace of the film, and this astonishing story reveals to the world one of the greatest opera composers, Mozart’s friend, yet still unknown, in an exceptional setting in 18th century Italy.”

Produced by Jan Makula at Mimesis Film, “Il Boemo” by Pilot Film will be released in Czech theaters on October 20.
