Bad Bunny Houston concert: Reggaeton superstar brings 2 ‘World’s Hottest Tour: Un Verano Sin Ti’ shows to Minute Maid Park!

Houston, Texas (KTRK) – Houston has Bad Bunny fever now.

The artist is giving his second show of two nights at Minute Maid Park on Friday, his fourth public show in the city in 2022.

More than 40,000 fans flocked to the stadium to watch the reggae star on Thursday, and queues of people waited outside in the rain on Friday to see him perform again.

“This is the first time I’ve seen her,” said Brenda, a fan at the party. “I’m excited.”

Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio, has been emptying groceries for six years. Now he’s selling pitches, winning a Grammys, and just being named Artist of the Year at the MTV Video Music Awards.

Dr. Petra Rivera-Ridow teaches a semester on Bad Bunny at Wellesley College in Massachusetts.

“The Latin music market is really big, very profitable and driving the streaming platforms. It’s been dominating all of those charts,” said Rivera Rideau, who wrote the book “Remixing Reggaeton: The Cultural Politics of Race in Puerto Rico.”

He’s been Spotify’s most streamed artist in the past two years, but his Wellesley class is really a springboard to discussing bigger issues.

Bad Bunny also speaks candidly about LGBTQ+ rights, breaks gender stereotypes, and frequently highlights issues in his native Puerto Rico.

That’s why, while fans waited outside the stadium to see one of the biggest artists in the world, they didn’t just talk about his award-winning music.

“I think he’s cool,” said one fan named Fernando. “It puts Puerto Rico on the map, basically, and it helps put these things in a broader perspective.”
