OBS Studio now offers native support for Apple silicon

A new version of OBS Studio has been released, bringing many new changes to the software. OBS Studio 28 is a significant upgrade over previous versions, providing 10-bit HDR color support, UI framework using Qt6, ScreenCaptureKit support, and more. Although there are a lot of improvements and changes, they come at a cost, as some older operating systems lose support.

If you’re not familiar, OBS Studio is a free, open-source app frequently used for live broadcasting. The app offers many different options and can be customized in many ways. Although it is a powerful tool, it also offers support for third-party plugins. The app is also compatible with Windows, Linux, and macOS operating systems. With something as intense as OBS Studio, it’s essential to have an original version so the app can take advantage of all the power your computer has to offer. Although Apple released its M1 processor nearly two years ago, it took a while for apps to get local support.

Apple realized this could be a problem, and was careful when switching to its own chips. The company has found a way to run existing Intel applications on Apple silicon computers using Rosetta 2 technology. For the most part, the results have been impressive. While it is not strictly necessary to have a genuine Apple silicon version of the app, it does allow the app to run more efficiently.

You can now download the latest version of the app directly from the OBS website listed in the link below. Just be sure to choose the version of macOS that matches your computer. If you are using an Intel model, download the Intel version. Download the Apple Silicon version if you’re using a Mac with Apple Silicon. As mentioned earlier, the new version of OBS Studio drops support for older versions of macOS, with the minimum requirement being macOS Catalina 10.15 or later.
